Written by Pelin Updated over a week ago Exporting components from Adobe XD. With Zeplin, you can publish finalized designs from Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD and Photoshop. Developers get a 'locked' design to build from, while designers can iterate on the next great release. Zeplin is the source of truth for finalized designs, if it’s not in Zeplin it won’t be.
☝️ To export components, due to a technical limitation, make sure the Adobe XD file is saved locally on your device, and not on Adobe Cloud.
You now can export your Adobe XD components directly into Zeplin and they will be listed under the Components tab of your styleguide.
Exporting components is very similar to exporting artboards from Adobe XD. Initially, you need to select the components you want to export:
1. Select one or multiple components that are located in the pasteboard area, outside of an artboard. If your components are not in the pasteboard area, you can select them from the Assets panel of the file and drag them out to the pasteboard area:
2. Save the file manually. (Make sure that it's saved locally on your device, and not on Adobe Cloud. This is due to a technical limitation we're currently working on with the Adobe XD team.)
3. Select “File > Export > Zeplin” from the menu, or use the shortcut “Command/Ctrl + Option/Alt + E”.

Once the export process ends, they will be listed under the Components tab of the styleguide.
☝️ If you see the “No artboard or component selected” error message, saving your Adobe XD file and re-exporting it should do the trick.
Generating assets from components

☝️To be able to export designs from Adobe XD to Zeplin, you need to have the desktop app installed on your computer.
When you have the latest versions of both Adobe XD and Zeplin installed, you will see a new menu item in the Export menu of Adobe XD. Follow these steps below to export a layer or artboard from Adobe XD to Zeplin.
Select any layer/artboard in your XD.
Crossover 2019. Select “File > Export > Zeplin”.
The shortcut for the last used export option is ⌥⌘E. So, next time you want to export designs to Zeplin, simply select the artboards and press Option, Command, E.

☝️ Use Ctrl + Alt + E on Windows.
This will take you to Zeplin where you can select the project you want to publish the artboards into. Designs are now live on Zeplin, along with all the specs, assets, and code snippets that developers can make use of.
Troubleshooting Export Issues
⚠️ If you’re experiencing an export issue, you can give the new Zeplin Adobe XDplugin a try.
You can install the new plugin from https://zpl.io/xd-plugin. Once the plugin is installed, you can export your designs from the menu up top: 'Plugins' > 'Zeplin for XD (Beta)' > 'Export Selected..':

Seeing File Location
Zeplin shows the file location on the right panel of the screen if you're the user who exported that screen and you're using the same machine that you used to export. You can directly open the design file in XD by clicking on the file name.

☝️ It's sadly not possible to import XD files directly into Zeplin just yet. You can only export your designs from the Export menu of Adobe XD.
